In green, the 2 municipalities concerned: La Salle, Morgex.

Between Morgex and La Salle, in the Valdigne, a small wetland lies along the Dora Baltea. This is the Marais nature reserve, established in 1992. It covers just over 9 hectares, between 889 and 910 metres.

A wetland born of a dam

The marsh formed after a hydroelectric dam was built on the Dora. It includes riverside woods, reed beds and two wooded islets. Between 2007 and 2009, works created new pools, enlarged the reed bed and built a nesting wall for kingfishers.

A stopover for birds

The reserve is a stop for migrating waterbirds. Mallards, water rails and reed warblers nest here; purple herons, grey herons and bitterns stop over.

An accessible loop

A flat path of about thirty minutes goes round the marsh, with boardwalks and bird hides. It is wheelchair accessible. The main entrance is on the Morgex side.

Address : main entrance on the Morgex side (via Chabodey, about 25 parking spaces), 11017 Morgex (AO)

Opening : path open freely. Bus 581 Aosta–Courmayeur.

Admission : no fee indicated.

Please check before your visit: hours and prices can change from one season to the next.
