Young heifers in the ring in Aosta

Heifers, known as moudzon, have their own championship. Its final, the Trophée Ville d’Aoste, takes place on Saturday 17 October 2026 at the Croix-Noire arena. It is a chance to spot the queens of tomorrow.

Thirty years of tradition

This year the event turns thirty. It is organised by the regional association Compagnons Batailles de Moudzons, chaired by Vilma Cerise. As in the batailles de reines, the fights follow the animals’ natural behaviour. The young heifers meet in a knockout format, grouped into categories by age and weight.

The day

The heifers are weighed in the morning. The fights start in the early afternoon and end around 6 pm.

• Weigh-in: 8 am to 10 am.
• Fights: from 12:30 pm, ending around 6 pm.
