Saint John Paul II Sanctuary
The chapel at Les Combes, in Introd, made a diocesan sanctuary in 2016

In the little village of Les Combes, in Introd, a chapel dedicated to Saint Lawrence the martyr is now the Saint John Paul II Sanctuary. The pope spent several holidays here, between 1989 and 2004.
A pope on holiday
John Paul II loved the quiet of the place and the discretion of its inhabitants. During his holidays he alternated relaxing walks with long moments of prayer. The village has remained linked to his memory.
A diocesan sanctuary
On 22 June 2016 the chapel of Saint Lawrence was raised to the rank of diocesan sanctuary. It holds a relic of John Paul II. The rector is the parish priest of the parish of the Conversion of Saint Paul in Introd.
The museum and the trail
Next door, the Maison-Musée gathers mementos of the pope’s stays. A trail, the Pope John Paul II path, leads to a viewpoint with a cross, at 1,726 metres.
Getting there
From Aosta, take State Road 26 towards Courmayeur. Les Combes is about 3.5 kilometres past Villeneuve. Without a car, take the train to Aosta, then the bus to Introd.
