The Sapegno Foundation
A library of 50,000 volumes and 30,000 comics, in a tower in Morgex

In the Archet tower in Morgex, a foundation houses a library and a comics museum. It is the Natalino Sapegno Foundation, named after a great literary critic from the valley.
Natalino Sapegno
Natalino Sapegno (1901-1990) was a professor of Italian literature and the author of a well-known commentary on the Divine Comedy. The foundation was created in 1991 by the autonomous Region and the Sapegno family. It keeps his library and archives.
A library in a tower
Since 2010 the foundation has been based in the Archet tower, whose origins go back, according to the foundation, to the year 998. The literary library holds about 50,000 volumes open to the public. It occupies seven wooden levels fitted into the tower without damaging its original architecture. Documents can be consulted and borrowed.
The comics library-museum
The Biblio-Museo del Fumetto keeps the Mafrica collection: more than 30,000 albums and comics, from the bequest of Demetrio Mafrica, a mathematics and physics teacher and passionate collector. It is one of the richest in Italy, with a focus on the development of Italian comics. The foundation also runs workshops for families and schools. For the tower itself, see the article on the Archet tower.
