The Castel Savoia Botanical Garden – Flowering rock gardens in the park of Queen Margherita’s castle

In Gressoney-Saint-Jean, in the grounds of Castel Savoia, a small alpine botanical garden shows mountain plants at 1,350 metres.

The queen’s park

The castle park was laid out from 1898 for Queen Margherita of Savoy. The botanical garden itself was created in 1990 by the autonomous Region of the Aosta Valley.

Eleven rock gardens

The garden covers about 1,000 square metres. It is arranged in eleven rock-garden sections, grouped by geographical origin and by theme. It was renovated under the European JardinAlp project between 2014 and 2020, and is partly accessible to people with reduced mobility.

The garden opens from May to the end of September, during the castle’s hours. For the house itself, see the article on Castel Savoia.
