Palet – Throwing a metal disc as close to the target as possible

Palet is the simplest of the traditional Aosta Valley sports, and probably the most widespread. It is played everywhere, on a packed-earth pitch, in the evening after work as well as at village festivals.

How it works

Each player throws metal discs, the palets, towards a small target set several metres away. The palet closest to the target scores. As in boules, you can also aim at an opponent’s palet to knock it away.

A game of skill

Palet needs no strength, but a steady hand and a good eye. You have to judge the throw so the disc stops in the right place without rolling.

Championships

Like rebatta, tsan and fiolet, palet has its own championships, individual and team, held between the valley’s villages.
