Chambave Rouge DOC

The petit rouge of the Chambave hillsides

Chambave is known for its muscat. The village also has its red, made mainly from petit rouge, the most widely planted red grape in the valley.

The hillsides from Châtillon to Verrayes

On the right bank, the vineyards cover the slopes of Châtillon, Pontey and Chambave. On the left bank, they run from Montjovet to Verrayes, by way of Saint-Vincent and Saint-Denis. None lies above 700 metres. Chambave Muscat shares exactly the same area.

Petit rouge first

Petit rouge makes up at least 70% of the blend, with other red grapes from the valley providing the rest. The wine waits five months in the cellar before it is sold, or eight months if it bears the superiore designation.

In the glass

Ruby red. The wine is fresh and balanced. With age it takes on a scent of violets.

At the table

Dried meat, charcuterie, fondue, valpellinentze soup, white meats.
