Gewürztraminer DOC

A white wine scented with rose

Gewürztraminer, or aromatic traminer, is a pink-skinned grape. It is well known in Alsace and in Alto Adige. In the Aosta Valley it is rare.

Few vines, a large area

The rules allow it throughout the appellation area, from the lower valley up to Morgex and La Salle.

Two ways of making it

Gewürztraminer must make up at least 85% of the wine, which may be released for sale from 1 December of the vintage year. A passito version also exists: the grapes are left to dry after the harvest, and the resulting wine is sweet.

In the glass

Golden straw yellow. A more or less aromatic nose, with a scent of rose. The palate is full and velvety.

At the table

Blue cheeses, spicy food, foie gras. The passito version goes with desserts.
