Merlot DOC

The Bordeaux grape in the mountains

Merlot comes from the Bordeaux region. In the Aosta Valley little of it is planted, but it has its place in the designation.

Where it is warm enough

To ripen, it needs warmth. It is therefore found in the lower and middle valley, from Donnas to Avise, in vineyards that stop at between 600 and 800 metres depending on the location. Morgex and La Salle are excluded.

The name on the label

Merlot must make up at least 85% of the wine. Five months’ ageing is required before it goes on sale.

In the glass

Deep ruby red. On the nose, a slight herbaceous note. On the palate, a serious wine with body.

At the table

Red meat, duck, dishes in sauce, pressed cheeses.
