The Early Christian Church of San Lorenzo
The remains of a fifth-century funerary building, where the first bishops of Aosta lie

Close to the collegiate church of Saint-Ours in Aosta, some remains recall the beginnings of Christianity in the valley. They belong to the early Christian church of San Lorenzo.
A fifth-century funerary building
It began as a funerary building of the fifth century, cross-shaped in plan. Many tombs can be seen, including those of the first bishops of Aosta. The model is thought to come from Milanese monuments such as the Basilica of the Apostles.

The route is partly accessible by wheelchair, and the site can be reached by public transport. It opens together with the other archaeological sites of Aosta, and the “Aosta Archeologica” ticket lets you visit them together. The nearby collegiate church of Saint-Ours makes a good combined visit.
