The Azienda Agricola Zootecnica Famiglia Bianquin, in Pollein, rests on a long farming tradition handed down over more than four generations. The business began with the great-grandfather, continued with the grandfather, and then with the father, Edy Bianquin. In 1990 he built a new cowshed on the valley floor, in Pollein, for around a hundred animals. The herd is still kept there.

My opinion

I went once, and I have been back every year since. Every time, it is a delight! I like all their flavours, and pistachio most of all.

A century in the high pastures

For almost 100 years the family ran the Chaligne alpage (mountain pasture), in the municipality of Gignod, following the old rhythm of the climb to the high pastures and the seasonal move of the herds. This close bond with the mountains shaped the spirit of the farm: respect for nature, for animals and for the cycles of the land.

From the alpage to ice cream

In 2018, to make more of its products, the family gave up the alpage. It opened a farm shop and an agrigelateria (farm ice-cream parlour), inaugurated on 19 September 2019. Here they make and sell directly cheeses, yoghurts, cured meats, meat and handmade ice creams made with milk from the farm.

In 2022 the farm bought about fifteen goats. Their milk is made into fresh and matured cheeses.

A family business

Edy Bianquin runs the farm with his wife Simonetta Cabraz and their children Valeria and Davide. Everyone takes part in the daily work. For them, family unity is a basic value and a strength for the future.

What is new in 2026

  • Tastings: at the shop you can try a plate of farm products and buy a bottle of wine on the spot to go with it.
  • A terrace enclosed for winter: the terrace is to be enclosed so that it stays warm and welcoming, allowing tastings even in cold weather.
  • Snails: the family has taken up heliciculture (snail farming), with a first stock of about 48,000 snails.
