Cave Mont Blanc de Morgex et La Salle
The wine of the highest vineyards, aged at the bottom of a mine

At the foot of Mont Blanc, Cave Mont Blanc is the cooperative of the winegrowers of Morgex and La Salle. Founded in 1983, it brings together about 80 growers. Together they farm around twenty hectares, between 900 and 1,200 metres above sea level.
A grape variety that has never been grafted
Only one grape variety grows here: prié blanc. At this altitude, phylloxera, the insect that ravaged Europe’s vineyards, was never able to settle. The vines therefore grow on their own roots, without rootstock. They are still propagated the old way, by burying a cane in the soil.
The vines are trained on very low pergolas. This lets them take advantage of the warmth of the stones and the ground, and shelters them from the wind.
Bottles in the mine
The cellar ages some of its wines in the tunnels of a former mine. The bottles stay there for a year, cool, in the dark and free from vibrations. It is an original way of telling the story of this mountain wine.
The wines
All carry the Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle appellation.
- The still wine: a lively, light white, to be drunk young.
- “La Piagne”: the wine of a single plot.
- “Mines”: the cuvée aged in the mine.
- “Chaudelune”: an ice wine, made from grapes frozen on the vine.
- Sparkling wines: including the “Cuvée du Prince”, which spends at least four years on its lees.
