Fondazione Sistema Ollignan
A farm in Quart where the vineyard also helps people find their place

On the hillside of Quart, in the hamlet of Ollignan, at around 700 metres, there is a farm unlike the others. It is run by the Fondazione Sistema Ollignan, a foundation of the Autonomous Region of the Aosta Valley.
A farm that works for people
It all began in 1999 with the Ollignan Foundation, set up by the Aosta Valley association of families of people with disabilities, the Institut Agricole Régional and the Region. The farm opened in 2001. In 2010 a regional law turned it into the Fondazione Sistema Ollignan.
Its aim is social: to offer people with disabilities work, activities and educational support, and to help them find a job. It also welcomes secondary-school pupils on educational projects. A small team of eight, including farm workers, an agricultural technician, a cook and educators, looks after them.
The vines and the rest
The farm works about 3 hectares. There are vines, a large vegetable garden of around 7,000 m², potatoes, rye and maize, beehives and laying hens. The foundation is also trying out aromatic and medicinal plants (calendula, rosemary, sage, chamomile, lavender) to make essential oils. It is one of the producers in the Consorzio Vini Valle d’Aosta.
