Distillers turned winegrowers, and a Petite Arvine above 900 metres

Rosset Terroir – Distillers turned winegrowers, and a Petite Arvine above 900 metres

The Rosset family has long been known for its liqueurs and spirits. In the early 2000s, it moved into wine. The first vines were planted in 2001 in Saint-Christophe.

Going higher

In 2017, the family bought vineyards in Villeneuve, above 900 metres. There it planted Petite Arvine. The wine is called “Sopraquota 900”, meaning “above 900”. In 2021, the Gambero Rosso guide named it the best white wine in Italy.

Vines in three corners of the valley

The estate also has vines in Saint-Christophe and in Chambave, where muscat grows. The soils are made up of glacial deposits, often on steep slopes. The family also grows raspberries, genepì and saffron for its liqueurs.

The wines

The range includes five white and five red DOC wines.

  • “Sopraquota 900”: the high-altitude Petite Arvine.
  • Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Muscat.
  • Reds: Cornalin, Petit Rouge, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Nebbiolo.
