Arnad-Montjovet DOC

The nebbiolo of the middle valley

Arnad-Montjovet is the neighbour of Donnas, a little further up the valley. The same grape, nebbiolo, but a more flexible set of rules and a wine that is often softer.

On both banks of the Dora

Seven municipalities share the vineyards, from Hône to Montjovet: Hône, Arnad, Issogne, Champdepraz and Montjovet on one side of the Dora, Arnad, Verrès, Challand-Saint-Victor and Montjovet on the other. The altitude limit varies with the bank: 600 metres on the right, 700 metres on the left. Many plots still have their dry-stone terraces.

More flexible than Donnas

Nebbiolo must make up at least 70% of the wine, with other red grapes from the valley completing the blend. Five months of ageing are enough before it can be sold. For the “Supérieur” label, twelve are needed.

In the glass

Ruby red with garnet glints. On the nose, a slight note of almond. On the palate it is round and finishes with a light bitterness.

At table

Lard d’Arnad, of course, cured meats, roast meats, polenta and the cheeses of the valley.
