Château Vieux – Great-grandfather’s vineyard, taken over by his great-grandchildren

In Pont-Saint-Martin, below the castle ruins and near the Roman bridge, Château Vieux is one of the youngest estates in the valley. It was set up in 2019 by cousins in their twenties.

A forgotten bottle

The vines belonged to their great-grandfather. In his little house among the rows, the cousins found an old bottle. Its label bore the words “Château Vieux”. They made it the name of the estate.

Hillside winegrowing

The vines are on terraces, in the Roveretta area. Everything is done by hand, as a family. The family cellar was renovated in 2021, with a small “crotta” for barrel ageing. The first vintage was 2021.

The cuvées are often named after older members of the family.

The wines

  • A Pinot Gris, Valle d’Aosta DOC.
  • “Gregoire”: a nebbiolo (known here as picotendro), Valle d’Aosta DOC, named after an ancestor.
