La Kiuva
The cooperative of picotendro, Arnad’s nebbiolo

In Arnad, in the lower valley, La Kiuva is a cooperative. Its building dates from 1975; the first grapes arrived in 1979. Today it brings together about fifty growers, most of them part-time.
Picotendro
Here the great grape is nebbiolo, known locally as picotendro. It is the grape behind the Arnad-Montjovet designation. The vineyards, about thirteen hectares, stretch from Hône to Montjovet, often on terraces held up by dry-stone walls. Once trained on pergolas, the vines are now mostly trained on wires.
More than a winery
La Kiuva also has a restaurant and a shop selling local products. Among them is lard d’Arnad, the village’s great speciality.
The wines
- Arnad-Montjovet: a nebbiolo red, with notes of violet and cherry.
- Arnad-Montjovet Supérieur: aged longer in wood.
- Picotendro: a pure nebbiolo, elegant and a little austere.
- Whites: Petite Arvine, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Müller-Thurgau.
- Sparkling wines, including “Traverse”, which spends a long time on its lees.
