La Source – A winery named after the water found while digging

At Bussan Dessous, in the commune of Saint-Pierre, La Source is the estate of Stefano Celi, an agronomist, and his family. He began restoring vineyards in the mid-1990s, then launched the estate on his own in the early 2000s.

The name comes from the water

While the winery was being built, a spring was discovered. It gave the estate its name.

Scattered vineyards

The vines cover seven to eight hectares, between 650 and 900 metres. They are spread across six communes: Quart, Aosta, Sarre, Saint-Pierre, Aymavilles and Villeneuve. The slopes are steep and the soil is sandy.

Most of the wines are aged in stainless steel tanks. Wood is kept for a few reds, such as the Syrah and the Torrette Supérieur.

The wines

  • Whites: Petite Arvine, Chardonnay and “Ensemblo”, a blend of aromatic grapes.
  • Reds: Torrette, Torrette Supérieur, Cornalin, Gamay and Syrah.
  • “Charmant”: a sweet wine.
