Pellissier Wine – The ski instructor reviving dried-grape Petit Rouge

André Pellissier is a winegrower in Saint-Pierre… and a ski instructor in Courmayeur in winter. His great-grandfather had about a hectare of vines. His father delivered the grapes to another winery. André took over these vines to make his own wine.

The Torrette hillside

The vines lie between the castles of Sarre and Saint-Pierre, in the historic Torrette area. They grow between 700 and 900 metres, on terraces held up by dry-stone walls. Some are over 80 years old. Everything is done by hand.

Dried Petit Rouge

His most original cuvée is called “Sancto Petro”. The Petit Rouge grapes dry for about twenty days in crates before being pressed. The wine then ages for two years in barrel. It is an old way of doing things, which André is bringing back. He makes only a few hundred bottles.

The wines

André makes only reds.

  • Torrette Supérieur.
  • “Bouquet”: a blend of valley grapes.
  • “Sancto Petro”: the dried-grape Petit Rouge.
  • Petit Rouge, Fumin, Syrah and Pinot Noir.
