Petit Rouge DOC

The red grape of the valley

Petit rouge is the most widely planted red grape in the Aosta Valley. It is found in Torrette, Enfer d’Arvier, Chambave and Nus. It can also be made almost on its own, under its own name.

The grape of the central valley

It is grown from Châtillon and Saint-Vincent up to Avise, around Aosta, in the heart of the valley. Further down, where it is warmer, growers tend to plant nebbiolo instead.

Under its own name

To bear the name of the grape, the wine must contain 85% or more of it. It may be released for sale after five months’ ageing.

In the glass

Ruby red. The rules of the appellation describe its scent as that of wild rose. On the palate it is supple and medium-bodied.

At the table

Aosta Valley cured meats, Bosses ham, polenta concia, white meats, fresh cheeses.
